Description
Sodium lactate by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. Also known as Sodium 2-hydroxypropanoate, this is the sodium salt of lactic acid. The reagent is available as a white powder which is soluble in water. It has a melting point of 161 to 162 C and a boiling point of 113 C. Sodium lactate can be generated by fermenting a sugar source, such as corn or beets, and then neutralizing the resulting lactic acid. While it is stable under general conditions, this reagent is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. CAS No.: 72-17-3 Quantity Provided: 25 gm per bottle Molecular formula: C3H5NaO3 Molecular weight: 112.06 Sodium lactate has a variety of applications in chemical and biological sectors. This reagent finds applications in the organic synthesis of various derivative compounds. Sodium lactate is widely used as a food additive as E325, where it acts as a preservative, acidity regulator, and bulking agent. It is additionally used in shampoo products and other similar items such as liquid soaps, as it is an effective humectant and moisturizer. Sodium lactate can also be intravenously administered as a source of bicarbonate for preventing or controlling mild to moderate metabolic acidosis in patients. This reagent is suitable for industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
