This reagent is employed for the titration of weak acids, particularly organic acids. It has also been used in the decarboxylation of amino acids, while liberating barium carbonate in the process. Barium hydroxide additionally finds applications in the preparation of cyclopentanone, diacetone alcohol and D-Gulonic -lactone.
